Dear Valued Customer
After over a century of operation in the diamond business, IDC has reached the difficult decision to wind down its London operation. This decision has not been taken lightly, and we recognise and want to mitigate the impact of this decision on our customers. Over recent months we have evaluated every path that could preserve the standards you rely on—product quality, continuity of supply, and responsive technical support.
The outcome of that work is a structured transition: effective 16/10/2025, Shannon Abrasives Ltd. will assume responsibility for servicing all IDC customers. We chose Shannon Abrasives because they know IDC’s products and processes intimately, having collaborated for many years, and we share a commitment to precision and reliability.
I will personally be joining Shannon Abrasives, with the initial support of our London team, to ensure your specifications, materials, and delivery schedules continue without interruption.
What’s Changing (and What Isn’t)
Joining forces with Shannon Abrasives
Effective 16/10/2025, Shannon Abrasives will take over servicing all IDC customers. IDC and Shannon have worked together for many years, building a strong, trusted relationship and a deep understanding of each other’s businesses. We’re similar in size, share deep roots in the diamond industry, and have long experience fulfilling the precise requirements of global clients. This makes the decision to join forces the natural next step.
Customer impact
Our priority is that you experience as little change as possible. To that end:
-
IDC’s entire London diamond stock has been transferred to Shannon Abrasives premises in Ireland.
-
The machinery used to manufacture the products you currently buy has also been transferred.
-
Key IDC personnel will support Shannon throughout the transition, and I will be on hand to ensure products continue to be produced exactly as before.
In practical terms, the only visible change to you will be the company name on your invoice. Everything else remains the same:
-
Same materials
-
Same machines
-
Same people still involved in production
About Shannon Abrasives
Shannon Abrasives is a family-run diamond specialist based at Shannon Airport in the west of Ireland, established in 1987 and trusted by toolmakers worldwide for both natural and synthetic diamond products. The company combines in-house manufacturing of natural diamond and a deep technical expertise in synthetic solutions, with a reputation for reliability, discretion, and close engineering support. Shannon will oversee your orders under the leadership of Greg Carey (Managing Director), whose career spans De Beers/Element Six, Boart Longyear, and Hughes Christensen before going on to found Shannon Abrasives. He is supported by a seasoned team who will be familiar to many of you over the coming months: Donal Carey (Sales), your primary commercial point of contact; Hugh Carey (Production), responsible for ensuring processes and specifications remain unchanged; Alison Carey (Finance), handling invoicing and account matters; and Samantha Clair (Operations/Customer Support), coordinating day-to-day logistics and enquiries.
Together with my continued involvement, this team is positioned to maintain IDC’s standards while providing responsive, detail-driven service.
Next Steps

IDC emails will remain open during the transition.
We will reach out shortly to arrange an introductory call with Donal and myself to answer any questions and confirm any open orders, specifications, or consignment arrangements and to furnish you with all necessary company details.
Finally
While closing IDC has been a difficult decision, I’m confident we’ve put in place the right solution in Shannon Abrasives to continue delivering the quality, reliability, and discretion you expect and my ongoing involvement ensures your precise requirements are understood and met without disruption.
I’ll be in contact over the coming weeks to introduce Donal more formally; together, we will be your main points of contact at Shannon Abrasives. In the meantime, if you have any questions—or if there’s anything you’d like us to review ahead of the transition—please don’t hesitate to reach out.
In closing I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, sincerely, for the trust and support you have shown IDC over the years. It has been a privilege to serve you, and that commitment does not end here. With Shannon Abrasives—our long-standing partner—carrying forward the same materials, machinery, and know-how, and with my continued involvement, I’m confident you will experience the same care and consistency you’ve come to expect from IDC. I hope you’ll stay with this new iteration of our long-established company and allow us to continue earning your trust and business in the years ahead.
Kind regards
Simon Taylor
